Time: Friday 6pm - 9pm, Saturday 9am - 6pm
For lunch on Saturday, you can either go out or we are offering a $7 lunch to purchase.

Cost:
Fee for the 3-hour Friday evening workshop
$79 per person (or $59 pre-registered 10 days in advance, by May 23rd Monday).
Fee for the 8-hour Saturday workshop
$139 per person (or $119 pre-registered 10 days in advance, by May 23rd Monday).
Fee for both workshops
(Friday and Saturday) is $179 per person (or $159 pre-registered 10 days in advance, by May 23rd Monday).

Workshop Info:
Basic Workshop (Friday 6-9pm) 3 hours
1. What does a microphone really do
2. How to identify inputs and outputs on a mixing board
3. What are mic and line inputs and when to use each one
4. Placing microphones and speakers to prevent feedback
5. Placing lav, podium, and choir mics for best sound
6. How to improve the sound of cassette recordings of your service
7. Adjusting the control on a small mixer without causing feedback (hands on)
8. Hooking up mics, mixers, amps, and speakers (hands on)
Intermediate Workshop (Saturday 9-6pm) 8 hours>
Microphones and inputs
1. Directional and Omni-Directional microphone patterns
2. What's Phantom power and when to use it
3. Dynamic and condenser mics and how are they different
4. Cables and how to hook them up
5. Recording mics vs. sound reinforcement mics and when to use each one
6. RF mics and body packs - diversity, UHF, etc…
7. How to mic a drum kit, acoustic guitar, etc....
8. How to place mics for maximum feedback rejection
Mixing Consoles
1. What are microphone and line inputs
2. Trim controls, Solo functions, and clipping lights (hands-on)
3. Pre/post fader aux sends and returns
4. Input strip functions, eq, routing to groups, etc... (hands-on)
5. Adding extra monitor channels to a console
Processors
1. Compressor and Limiter theory: ratio, threshold, attack and decay times (hands-on)
2. Gate and Expansion theory: ratio, threshold, level, and time
3. Listening to Parametric, graphic, and shelving equalizers, with examples
4. How to patch in a reverb, with audio examples
Amps and Speakers
1. Basic types of speakers - passive and active
2. Speaker types for voice and music
3. How to determine amplifier power required
4. What are monitor speakers and where to place them?
5. Where to place main speakers
Mixing and Recording Techniques
1. Digital console features
2. Making it all mix together, with audio examples (hands-on)
3. How to record from a console to 2-track
4. Mixing and sending your sermons to the web
Speaker Setup, Alignment, and Processors
1. Passive and active crossovers
2. How much amplifier power to use
3. Delays for balcony speakers and how to set them
4. Active processors in amplifiers
Stage setup
1. Digital and analog snakes and splits
2. Sending audio to video cameras
Setup Techniques
1. Ground loops and how to reduce system hum
2. Using a cable tester to find bad cables before they cause problems (hands-on)
